I’m reading A Gentleman in Moscow for one of my book clubs. It’s a wonderfully quirky historical novel about a man sentenced to live, for years, in The Metropol, a luxurious hotel in Moscow. We follow him through his days as he makes the hotel his world. One of the most special relationships in the novel is that between the Count and a little girl called Nina. The line I’ve chosen as a writing prompt today comes from their first meeting. However, you should take the line in any direction you like – just use the ingredients of a meeting at three o’clock in a hotel coffee shop. It could be anywhere, at any moment in history – or the future – between any two (or more people). Let your imagination take you where it will.
Write for 5 minutes, no stopping, no looking back, no editing or criticising – just scribble!
Happy writing! 💫
