In my new homeland, the lovely US of A, everyone is gearing up for Thanksgiving. It’s the moment when people who love each other come together to share food and give thanks for all the things that we are blessed with from family and friends to the sweet potato pie on our table.
As with all gatherings, it can be the best of times and the worst of times: family dynamics are tough. Friction between characters who are meant to be close is the stuff of good stories and many wonderful scenes been written set around a dining table.
So, today, use this sense of a family (and you can use that term loosely), sitting down together to share a meal – or maybe they’re sitting down at the table for another reason, like a family meeting. What happens next?
Let your imagination take you where it will. Write for 5 minutes, no stopping, no looking back, no editing or criticising – just scribble!
Happy writing! 💫
