Novels I Love
It’s impossible to write well without reading widely. As an English teacher, I have the joy of reading for my job; I love discovering new books to share with my pupils. I see reading as a core part of my writing life too and I try to keep my diet as varied as possible. I’m not a reading snob: I love literary and commercial fiction, I love reading books that were written a hundreds years ago and books that were written yesterday. Here are a few of my favourites.

Spill Simmer Falter Wither
A gorgeous, gorgeous book about the relationship between a man who lives in the margins of society and dog, OneEye. A wonderfully original point of view, with a use of the unusual second person. It’s been ages since I’ve felt as moved by a novel or felt as excited about a fresh new voice. One of my favourite books of the last few years.
